Clell Looney, Sr.

Clelland Leo Looney, Sr. the son of George Thomas and Cora Mae (Eschle) Looney, was born in Creston, Iowa on February 3, 1927. Clell passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield at the age of 90 years.
Clell was raised on the family farm and was educated in the Cromwell Community School. Clell graduated from Cromwell High School with the Class of 1945. One year later, in May 1946, Clell proudly entered the United States Army and served 18 months during the Korean Conflict. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1947. On October 26, 1947, Clell was united in marriage to Evelyn Jones and the couple was blessed with three children: Beverly, Janette and Clelland, Jr.
Being raised on the family farm, Clell’s passion became farming and he believed in being a good steward of the land. Clell farmed the same land he grew up on and lived on the family Century Farm most of his married life. He thoroughly enjoyed feeding cattle and continued his cattle operation unitl he was 80 years old. He was a strong believer in the practice of conservation.
Clell was a life-long member of the Cromwell United Church of Christ and proudly served on several church boards. He was also a member of the Theodore J. Martens, VFW Post #1797 and of the Elks Lodge. Clell also served on the Cromwell School Board and the Crestland Coop Board.
Preceding Clelland in death were his wife, Evelyn in 2001; his parents; two brothers: Cecil Looney (and his wife Mary) and Bernard Looney (and his wife Halcyon); and by two sisters: Ellen Louise Buchanan (and her husband Otis) and Creola Clem (and her husband Don).
Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Beverly (Richard) Mackey of Diagonal, Iowa, Janette (Harvey) Shaull of Hampton, Iowa and Clelland Looney, Jr. (Nadine) of rural Lenox, Iowa. Nine grandchildren: Matthew (Denise) Kuhns, Samantha (Chad) Jensen, Nathan Kuhns (fiance’ Emily), Garrick Looney, Gabe Looney (special friend Brooke), Myklyn (Nick) Ripperger, Jason (Bethani) Shaull, Nicholas (Darlyce) Shaull and Derrick (Heather) Shaull; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
