Gerry Abell

July 7, 1953 — July 3, 2017

Gerry Lee Abell, the son of Chester Orville and Peggy Madge Marie (Jones) Abell, was born July 7, 1953 in Creston, Iowa. Gerry entered eternal rest on July 3, 2017 at his home near Lenox, Iowa at the age of sixty-three years, eleven months, and twenty-six days.
Gerry attended Creston Public Schools. Gerry served in the United States Navy from 1969 until his discharge in 1975. He was stationed in Hawaii for four years and received his G.E.D. while in the Navy. Gerry also received diplomas in Auto Body and Masonry from Southwestern Community College in Creston.
On February 18, 1983, Gerry married Vicki Jo Fry in Creston. They resided in Creston when first married, and later moved to Clearfield and Kent for eleven years before moving to their current residence. Gerry worked for Fry’s Masonry about five years; then he worked twenty years as a hired hand on the Bob and Marsha Mohr Farm. After that he worked as a service technician at Stalker Chevrolet and worked seven years for Wellman Dynamics as a molder. Declining health forced him to retire from Wellman’s.
Gerry was an avid hunter and fisherman and the outdoor life was his passion. He loved bowling and tinkered with everything that was broken and fixed it. He would also tinker with anything that wasn’t broken. A recent highlight in Gerry’s life was taking a flight with Levi Buxton and family.
Left to cherish Gerry’s memory is his wife, Vicki Abell, Lenox; his son, Michael Scott (Crystal) Abell, Zimmerman, MN; his daughter, Dustie (Mike) Burton, Creston; his step-daughter, Dawn (Kevin) Madison, Prescott, IA; his grandchildren: Audra, Brady and Trey Burton; Ethan, Jonathon, Angel and Trent Abell; his brothers: Terry Abell, Creston, and Jerry Abell, Creston; his sisters: Fayrene (Mac) Moffitt, Creston; Margo Davenport, Creston; (Twin) Sherry (Greg) Shawler, Creston; Christine Abell (significant other, Bart), Grand Island, NE; his brother-in-law, Mike Fry, Creston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Gerry in death were his parents; siblings, Delores Ward; Larry Abell; Betty Gordon; Sheryl Kading; and Carmen Abell, in infancy.
