Gregory Scott Miller

July 30, 1955 — June 3, 2018

Gregory Scott Miller, the son of John D. Miller and Judith E. (Walters) Anderson, was born on July 30, 1955 in Creston, IA. His parents divorced when Greg was two years old and he was raised by his mom and step-father, Richard “Chub” Anderson. Greg lived in Creston until 1968 when his family moved north of Afton. He graduated from East Union High School with the Class of 1973. Greg married Paula Carlson on March 27, 1976 at Dodge Center Church in Union County, IA. Three children were born to this union, AJ, Rebecca Jesse. The couple has lived in their current home since 1981.
Greg worked for Massey-Ferguson in Des Moines for eight years on the assembly line before going to work for Fansteel Wellman Dynamics in Creston. He worked at Wellmans as a moulder for over 30 years until declining health forced him to retire.
Greg was an avid racer (Car #83), racing various classes, including late model, pro-street and limited sportsman cars. He raced over 30 years winning 11 Speedway Championships at Adams County, three at Ringgold County and one at Decatur County. Greg was recently inducted into the Adams County Speedway Hall of Fame.
Greg was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church; member of the NRA and 30 year member of the Union at Wellmans.
Left to cherish Greg’s memory are his wife of 42 years, Paula; sons A.J. (Tracy) Miller, Mt. Ayr, Jesse Miller, Newton, daughter Rebecca Miller, Osceola; four granddaughters, Olivia, Ashley Addison Franklin and Shelby Mullen; one grandson, Ethan Miller; one great-grandson, Peyton Robertson; brothers, Rocky Anderson, Creston, John (Ashley) Miller II and Joe Miller, both of Des Moines; sisters, Gina West, Des Moines, Angie (Tracey ) Constable, Indianola; mother-in-law, Judy Carlson, Afton; stepmother, Marge Miller, Des Moines, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Richard “Chub” Anderson; and father-in-law, Alva H. “Snook” Carlson.
