Larry Pete Dewitt

October 21, 1937 — June 23, 2017

Lawrence Ellis Dewitt Jr., the son of Lawrence Ellis and Milla (Furman) DeWitt Sr., was born in Kimball, Nebraska on October 21, 1937. Pete entered eternal rest on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Afton Care Center, Afton, Iowa, at the age of seventy-nine years, eight months, and two days.
Pete graduated from Rushville High School, Rushville, Nebraska, with the Class of 1956, where he was the class president and played football and played a part in the school play. He later attended the National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree. Pete was united in marriage to Stella Florence Amende on May 19, 1957 in Rushville, Nebraska. Two children were born to bless this union: Steven and Doug. Pete worked for the Nebraska Public Power District. He started as a meter reader and retired as District Manager in Gordon, Nebraska, in 1997. Pete and Stella moved to Prescott, Iowa in 1997 so Pete could start farming, but due to his health he was unable. Pete and Stella have made Prescott their home since that time.
Pete was a member of the Gordon, Nebraska, Lion’s Club and the Car Club in both Gordon and York, Nebraska. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Creston, Iowa. Pete loved collecting old cars and tractors, as well as restoring one cylinder engines. He was a proud owner of a model T, 1931 Chevy Coupe, and a 1958 Ford Edsel. Pete also enjoyed threshing bees; he and Stella would drive clear from Gordon, Nebraska to Mount Pleasant, Iowa to attend the Threshers Reunion. He was a die-hard Husker’s fan. He was a very “neat” person, believing everything had “a place”.
Left to cherish Pete’s memory is his loving wife Stella, Prescott, Iowa; sons: Steven DeWitt, Prescott, Iowa; Doug (Kathleen) DeWitt, Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Shannon; Shaun; Alexandrea, Michelle; three great-grandchildren: Courtney; Callie; Corbyn; sister: Kathleen (Dennis) Cushing, Torrington, Wyoming; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Pete in death were his parents.
