Merl Jackson

Merl Dean Jackson, the son of Harl Clayton and May Ollie (Cramer) Jackson, was born September 9, 1924, in Jasper Township, Adams County, IA. Merl departed peacefully from this world on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Corning Specialty Care, Corning, IA at the age of 92 years, nine days.
Merl married Valora “Connie” Myrlee (McIntire), on April 20, 1945. Ten Children were born to this union. Valora predeceased him on May 30, 2008. Merl then married Deborah (Davis) on the 14th of November, 2010, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Lenox, IA.
Merl served from the 27th of December 1943 to the 16th of April 1946, in the United States Army, during WWII. Merl was awarded the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations Ribbon, Philippians Liberation Ribbon with one battle star, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church, which closed several years ago, Corning Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years, Corning Substitute Ambulance Driver for 15 years, American Legion Post #117 his entire adult life, and Rose Ann Auxiliary. He was part of CHS Class of 1942. Merl was an electrician for over 35 years and retired in 1986. He enjoyed helping his son-in-law with his business after retirement. Merl also loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an avid NASCAR fan and greatly enjoyed watching his grandson race. He had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Merl was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Valora; brother Clarence (wife – Mary); father-in-law/mother-in law, Ben and Effie McIntire; and grandson Scott Pederson.
Survivors: wife Deborah Jackson, Corning, IA; seven sons: Gary (Diane) Jackson, Stanton, IA; Philip Jackson, Sarasota, Florida; Danny (Mary) Jackson, Lincoln, NE; Dwight (Cheryl) Jackson, Corning, IA; Bryan (Debbie) Jackson, Omaha, NE; Allan (Mary) Jackson, Cleveland, TX; Randal (Anne) Jackson, Menomonee Falls, WI; Three daughters: Virginia (Randy) Perrin, Brooks, IA; Karen (Larry) Pederson, Atlantic, IA; Diana (Matt) Morrison, Corning, IA; three stepsons: Michael (Mark Reynolds) Montgomery, Indianapolis, IN; Brian (Cindy) Corpe, Carbon, IA John (Sarah) Stuart, Corning, IA; one step-daughter; Genie (Bob) Taylor, Villisca, IA; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large host of friends and neighbors.
