Alice Bridgeman Grout

Alice Mae Bridgeman Grout of Corning, Iowa, passed away on September 21, 2013 at Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-two years, one month and nineteen days.
Alice was born on August 2, 1931 in Corning, Iowa to Glenn and Etha Pauline (Ogburn) Shearburn. She grew up on the family farm south of Corning. Alice attended country school and continued on to Corning High School. Alice worked as a waitress throughout her high school years and graduated with the Class of 1948. Following graduation, Alice went to work at the Battery Factory in Red Oak.
On August 9, 1949, Alice was united in marriage to John Bridgeman and the couple made their home in the Corning community. Alice and John purchased her father’s farm in 1960 where they raised their three children. It was also during this time that Alice and John opened Bridgeman Plumbing and Heating Company. Later, Alice went to work for Corning Nursing and Rehab after it was built and worked there many years. John passed away in 1989.
On September 21, 1991, Alice married Harry Grout. Alice and Harry made their home in Loveland, Colorado before moving back to Corning. Alice and Harry were Treasurers of the Senior Citizens Center and also helped in starting the Senior Day at the Adams County Fair.
Alice loved to travel and had been all over the United States as well as Canada and Mexico.
Alice was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Society. Alice was always willing to help whenever needed and was a member of the Friendship Meals, Meals on Wheels and helped with bingo at the nursing home. Harry passed away in 2010.
Alice is survived by her children: Dianne (Stephen) Kinder of Chillicothe, MO, William (Terry) Bridgeman of Chandler, AZ, Elizabeth (Dale) Motsinger of Marion, IA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; step-sons: Frank (Ruth) Grout of Berthoud, CO, Harry (Susan) Grout of Erie, CO. Charles (Olga) Grout of Pearsall, TX, John Grout of Denver, CO; step-daughter, Janet Offerdahl of Longmont, CO; eight step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands: John Bridgeman and Harry Grout; sister, Dorothy Doss; brother, Glenn Shearburn and step-daughter, June Grout.
