Alice Dean Hoakison

October 26, 1919 — February 7, 2017

Alice Dean Hoakison was born October 26, 1919 at home in Adair County. She was the daughter of Peter and Daisy (Mobley) Hower. Alice entered eternal rest Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Greater Regional Hospice House, Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety-seven years, three months, and twelve days.
Alice attended school for 12 years at Zion School and went on to attend Junior College at Creston Community College. She completed her education after graduating Teachers College at Cedar Falls. After graduation, she taught first and second grades at Zion.
On February 16, 1945 she married Willis V. Hoakison after his return from four years of service in New Guinea and Leyte. The couple was married in the home of her parents in Adair County.
After she was married, she became a homemaker, working alongside her husband, helping with the farm, raising cattle and pigs. The couples only child, a son, David Lee was born August 29, 1952. After Willis’ death, Alice Dean continued farming with her son. She lived on the family farm for 92 years before moving to Homestead Assisted Living in 2011.
Alice Dean was a member of the Jerusalem Church and a past Sunday school teacher. She was a 50 year member of Lincoln Neighbor’s Club from the time it was originated. She was a 50 year member of the VFW Auxiliary and past president. She was a Union County 4-H leader. Alice Dean enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors and a hearty dinner she prepared always accompanied those visits.
Alice Dean is survived by her son David Lee (Kris) Hoakison, Creston; two grandchildren: Caleb (Jill) Hoakison and Kelsey (Matt) Buck; her four great-grandchildren: Brantley and Theodore Hoakison and Ada and Elias Buck, all of Creston.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willis; two sisters: Nada Bennett and Mamie Kline; two brothers: Eldon “Mike” Hower and Freddy Hower, who died in infancy.
