Ann Moore

August 12, 1918 — December 24, 2010

Ann Aleene Moore, 92, passed away Friday, December 24, 2010, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa. A private family funeral was held at the chapel at Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Iowa.
Ann was born August 12, 1918, in Smithmill, Pennsylvania, to George and Helen Betza. She moved with her family to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at age six, attended public schools, and graduated from David B. Oliver High School. She moved to New York City where she graduated from the Chic School of Pattern Design and made costumes for dance recitals. She also resided in Bermuda for five months until WWII began, at which time she returned to New York City.
On May 22, 1945, she married DeRonda D. Moore, and they made their home in Long Beach, California, where DeRonda was in the service and Ann taught at the Singer Sewing Company. After the war they moved to Creston, where DeRonda started Moore’s Auto Supply with his father. Ann enjoyed sewing for her family her whole life, especially designing and sewing costumes for her daughters’ tap dancing recitals and making many “sister” dresses for them when they were young. She was a Cub Scout leader. Ann enjoyed reading, listening to music (especially Broadway musicals), playing tennis, and swimming. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Creston, was active in her women’s church circle, and was a member of Hospice Guild of Greater Community Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Yvonne (Jon) Alsip, Des Moines, Iowa; Ronda Moore, Ames, Iowa; and John Moore, Chandler, Arizona; her grandchildren Rebecca (Justin) Papian, Erica Moore (fiancé Brent Williams), and Christopher Moore; three sisters, Kathryn Novak, Munhall, PA, Christine Sayut, Pittsburgh, PA, and Helen Berhosky, Largo, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Robert (Bob) R. Moore, four sisters, and two brothers.
