Barbara Shuler

August 2, 1923 — September 29, 2012

Barbara Shuler, 89, of Corning entered into rest on September 29, 2012 at Parkway Village Assisted Living in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Barbara Ann Shuler was born August 2, 1923 in Adams County to Bennett Nicholas Amdor Ella Irene (Devereaux) Amdor.
She attended High Point Grade school in Lincoln Township (1-8 grades) and graduated from Corning High School in 1940 with a teaching certificate. She taught in Douglas #1 Township. Barbara as a freshman, was chosen Homecoming Queen and was active in speech drama.
On January 31, 1941, Olin Myron Shuler and Barbara Ann were united in marriage in Maryville, Missouri. They were high school sweethearts. After marrying, they moved to Olins parents farm until they purchased their own farm 2 miles away and spent their life farming and raising four children: Carolyn, Richard, Barbara DAnn and Marilyn.
In April 1973, they moved to Corning, but still maintained their family farm. Barbara worked side by side farming with her beloved husband.
Barbara and their family were members of the Fairview United Church of Christ where she served as a clerk and youth leader. Barbara and Olin were very active in Taylor County 4-H where she worked with the Holt Lassies club and served on the Family Living 4-H Youth Committee. She was Adams County 4-H program aide organizing new clubs, bringing a variety of new projects to the state program and held the first Mini-Conference in Iowa. Later Barbara was the Dietary Supervisor at Rosary Hospital until she retired.
Barbara loved her family and enjoyed sharing time with them – she and Olin would travel to watch all of their church, school, 4-H, and sports events and were most proud of their accomplishments. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her great pies. She loved working in her garden and flower beds. Barbara was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn this loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children: Carolyn (Eugene) Edmonds of Huxley, Iowa, Richard (Sharon) Shuler of Johns Creek, Georgia, Barbara DAnn Shuler of Portland, Maine, Marilyn Shuler of Benton, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Scott (Carrie) Shuler and children Aidan, Nathan and Ann of Portland, Oregon; Joel (Lisi) Shuler of Austin, Texas; Jennifer (Miles) Archer and children Olin and Daphne of Falmouth, Maine; Kristine (Sam) Gile and son, Austin of Portland, Maine; Andrew Dach and son Jules of Montepillier, France; Kathryn Pike and daughter Lillie of Benton, Arkansas; Emily Harris of Madison Wisconsin; brother, Ed (Jinx) Amdor of Corning, Iowa; sister, Beth Mueller of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Bill (Carol) Shuler of Corning; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
