Bernerd E. Dick Miller

July 22, 1918 — September 24, 2010

Bernerd Edwin “Dick” Miller was born on his family’s farm in Adams County, Iowa on July 22, 1918 to parents Charles W. and Mary M. (Schafroth) Miller. Dick entered eternal rest on Friday, September 24, 2010 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of ninety-two years, two months and five days.
Dick lived his entire life in Adams County. He was united in marriage to Bernadean Uehling in 1938 and two children were born to bless this union: Bradford and Marilyn. Bernadean passed away on July 26, 1980. On August 18, 1987 Dick was united in marriage to Milree Peterson, to whom he regarded as a Godsend.
In 1944 Dick became co-founder of Anderson and Miller Oil Company and operated the Phillips 66 gas stations in Corning and Prescott. He became well known to many while delivering fuel oil to farms and homes in and around the area. Dick’s pride and joy was his 1915 Model T Ford, which he loved. Together they participated in many parades in Corning and Prescott throughout the years.
Dick was an active supporter and promoter of Corning. He served in many civic organizations. Dick was most proud of his pioneer involvement in bringing Westgate Federal Housing to Corning where he served as Chairman of the Board for 10 years. In addition, Dick was on the Board to Appoint Magistrate for 20 years, a volunteer fireman for 29 years, served one term as Mayor, served on the City Council for 4 years, served on the Rosary Hospital Advisory Board, Colonial Manor Nursing Home Board, was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member for 55 years in the Corning Masonic Lodge. Dick became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corning in 1946 and was a trustee from 1953-1955 where he was part of the building effort of the new church.
Dick will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was always the voice of reason during difficult times and his common sense, advice and reassurance will be sorely missed.
Left to cherish Dicks’ memory are his wife, Milree Miller of Corning; daughter, Marilyn (husband Wayne) Dillinger of Dawson, Illinois; granddaughter, Rachel Dillinger of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandsons: Ryan (wife Melissa) Dillinger of Peoria, Illinois and Renny Dillinger of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Doug (wife Patty) Peterson of Corning; step-grandchildren: Matthew Peterson of Corning and Jeni Smith (husband Nathan) and step-great grandchild: Zoe Smith all of Des Moines, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Miller; wife, Bernadean Miller; son, Bradford Miller and brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Vera Miller.
