Bernie L. White, 68, of Creston, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 29, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Rev. Daniel Moore, St. Johns United Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Open Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 28. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family in Bernie’s name (to be established at a later date). Bernie Lewis White, the son of Hedge Theodore and Anna Lavelle (Coon) White, was born on January 15, 1944, in Milan, Missouri. Bernie has lived in Missouri, Illinois, and Des Moines. He lived in Thayer a few years, and then moved to Creston where he has lived the past thirty-one years. In 1962, he married Sharon Kay Hines. They had two children, Tammy Lynn and Linda Kay. Bernie and Sharon later divorced. On December 24, 1964, he married Lila Kay Hanky in Illinois. They had one child, Ronald Lewis. Bernie and Lila later divorced. On October 26, 1991, he married Mary Kay Waddell Bolinger.
Bernie has worked various jobs during his life. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a M.O.W. Laborer; he worked in maintenance and management for the Iowana Hotel before it closed; he worked for Sunbest Foods and the YMCA for several years; and worked in production for Pottash in Illinois. Bernie owned Southside Auto Sales in Creston where he detailed cars and sold used cars. He also sold for Gose’s Used Cars. Bernie was an auto detailer at M M Motors from 1995-1999.
Left to cherish Bernie’s memory are his wife, Mary White, Creston; his daughter, Linda (Gene) Fry, Creston; his son, Ron (Angela) White, Creston; his daughter, Tammy Williams, Albuquerque, NM; his stepson, Michael Bolinger, Creston; and his stepdaughter, Deva Bolinger and fiance’, Josh Sweeney, Creston. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Georgiann (Larry) Kibble, Newton; Vera Lovan, Green City, MO; Kathy (Jim) Albright, Joplin, MO: his sisters-in-law: Arlene White, Princeton, MO; Helen Waddell, Creston; and Donna (Ron) Fogle, Glendale, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Bernie in death were his parents; three brothers: Carl, Edward and James White; one sister, Kathryn White; and a brother-in-law: Carl Lovan.
