Bertha Walter

Bertha Marie Walter, 95, died January 21, 2007, at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines of complications following a fall. Services will be Wednesday, January 24, 11:00 AM at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church with burial at the Lenox North Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Funeral Home in Lenox.
Bertha was born April 5, 1911 to John and Carrie Trost Notz and grew up on her parents farm northeast of Lenox, Iowa. She attended Adams County rural schools and Lenox High School. On August 30, 1928 she married Lonzo (Lonnie) Walter. They lived all their married life on the farm northwest of Lenox where Lonnie was born and shared 49 years together prior to his death on July 1, 1977.
Bertha was a faithful, active long-time member of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church. She spent many years as a volunteer for the Rose Ann Auxiliary of Mercy Hospital in Corning. For more than 70 years she belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Club of which she was a founding member.
Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers, Harold Notz and Paul Notz, and two sisters, Pauline Walter and Anna Casey Arneal.
She is survived by son, Garland Walter and former wife Mary Walter of Lenox, daughter, Eileen Tyler (Paul) of Des Moines, grandchildren Suzi Bonnett (Chad) of Bellevue, Nebraska, Joni Habel (Craig) of Urbandale, Debbie Larson (Brandon) of Clearfield, Carrie Walter of Minneapolis, Robert Tyler (Linda) of Des Moines, Stephen Tyler (Jill) of Des Moines, Anne Trujillo (Tim) of Minneapolis, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lenox United Presbyterian Church.
