Betty Jean Gilman, the daughter of Shafter and Grace (Abel) Shobe, was born on April 10, 1922, at Creston, Iowa. Betty entered eternal rest on April 17, 2009, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven years, and eight days.
Betty graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1940. On September 17, 1944, she married Dale LeRoy Gilman at Creston. Betty lived in the Creston and Orient area most of her life. She moved to Ankeny about ten years ago. Betty worked in housekeeping at Greater Community Hospital in Creston; she worked in the kitchen at the Creston Junior High School; and she also worked at Gibson Memorial Library. Betty retired in the early 1990s.
Betty was a member of the Ankeny Womens Book Club and the Iowa Federated Womens Club. Betty enjoyed reading, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish Bettys memory are her Daughter: Becky (husband Brian) Metzger, Ankeny, IA; Sons: Pat Gilman, Monroe, IA, and Mike (wife Laura) Gilman, Ankeny, IA; Six Grandchildren: Niki Metzger, Grace Metzger, Logan Gilman, Lucas Gilman, Jacob Gilman, Matt Goaley; her Sister: Peggy Drake of Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Preceding Betty in death were her Parents; Husband, Dale, in 1993; Brother, Dick Shobe; and Brother-in-Law, Chris Drake.
