Betty Shelton

October 12, 1930 — September 17, 2015

Betty B. Shelton, the biological daughter of Albert Halladay and Emma (Fisk) Halladay, was born October 12, 1930, in Bagley, Minnesota. Betty entered eternal rest on September 17, 2015, at Harbor Lakes Nursing Home, Granbury, Texas at the age of eighty-four years.
When she was young, Betty and her family moved to Centerville, Iowa, where she was raised by her mother and step-father, Berdean Bonebright. Berdean passed away and Emma later married Dwight Murray. Betty spent her early years working at Berdean’s Restaurant, where she met a young farm boy named Donald Shelton from Unionville, Missouri. Betty and Donald were married on March 25, 1951. While living in Unionville, two children were born: Ricky and Kathy. In 1955, they moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where their third child, Randy, was born; and in 1957, they moved to Creston, where their fourth child, Donnie, was born.
Betty was a student of art, loved to do crafts, and was a stay-at-home mother. She was passionate about Girl Scouts and served as a leader over forty years. Donald developed a heart problem and Betty jumped into the working world to help the family. Betty worked well into her seventies. Betty proudly served fifteen years on the Creston City Council as well as the Park and Recreation Board. Betty was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Creston where she taught many students in Sunday School Class. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
In 2012, Betty moved to Granbury, Texas to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Kim Shelton. While living in Texas, Betty missed all of her friends and her church in Creston.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her three sons: Rick (Kim) Shelton, Granbury, TX; Randy (Jan) Shelton, and Donnie (Terry) Shelton, all of Kansas City, MO; her Grandchildren: Amy, Chelsa, Molly, Paige, Adam, Cody, Joshua, and Cara; her Great-Grandchild, Remi. Betty is also survived by her son-in-law, Ralph Domenico, Ashville, NC; her two brothers: Jim Bonebright and Stanley Murray; and her two sisters: Berdena Hiatt and Linda Wittoff.
Preceding Betty in death was her biological father, Albert Halladay; her mother, Emma Murray; her step-fathers, Berdean Bonebright, and Dwight Murray; her husband, Don; her daughter, Kathy Domenico; and her brother, Merle Halladay.
