E. J. “Bill” Fryrear, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughters home on April 13, 2009 after a two year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Red Oak, Iowa to Everett L. and Geneva F. Fryrear and raised with his only sibling, a sister, Jacquelyn on their parents farm outside Villisca, Iowa.
As a freshman in high school, Bill met the love of his life, Vona J. Wheeler. They were married on November 16, 1946 the fall after their high school graduation. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bill and Vona eventually settled back in their Iowa home town. Vona became the executive secretary for Villiscas Superintendent of Schools and Bill worked for the Fullerton Lumber Co. as Yard Foreman before being transferred to Fullertons home office in Minneapolis, MN in 1957. Once in Minneapolis, Vona worked as the executive secretary to the Presidents of Unipress Corp. and Norris Dispensers. Bill later took a position as Manager with Johnson Cashway Lumber Co. before he and his wife started Vobil, Inc., their own hauling, unloading, landscaping and snow removal business in the early 1960s. Working side by side the couple later moved their business headquarters to Webster, MN where they semi-retired and eventually fully retired to Mesa, AZ in 1992. As a couple, they enjoyed a very active retirement until Vona was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 1993. Bill was totally devoted to his wife of 62 years and her main caregiver until her death in October 2008. Vona was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister and wife. The couple is survived by their daughter, Angela Mayer (John) of Mesa, AZ, four grandchildren: Keitha Masler (fiance Danny Hodges) of Denver, CO, Kasey Feiten (Tom) of Vail, CO, Michael Mayer of Scottsdale, AZ, Meagan Mayer of Denver, CO; three great- grandchildren: Jake Masler, Cal Masler and Kai Feiten. Vona will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a steadfast friend and confidant, a lover of golf, travel and any kind of cards. Bill will be remembered as an unbelievably devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always put family first. No one enjoyed a good joke more than
Bill Fryrear. They were both proud Americans who will be missed terribly by their loving family and scores of friends.
Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service of Corning is in charge of the
