Bliss Gray Snethen, son of Frank Morris and Jennie (Gray) Snethen, was born on November 22, 1918 on the original Snethen Homestead in Douglas Township, Adams County, Iowa. Bliss entered eternal rest on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of ninety years, seven months and twenty-eight days.

He loved working with horses and in 1940, along with his Uncle Henry Gray, entered horses in the pulling contest at the Adams County Fair and other fairs.
Bliss was united in marriage to Nellie Haley Quinn of Adams County on July 24, 1951 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa. The couple resided on an acreage in West Corning before buying the Mahlon Corothers farm in 1961. Bliss and Nellie enjoyed their hobby of entering their pony drawn buggy in many parades throughout their years. Bliss farmed his entire life in Adams County.
