Calvin B. Downey

Calvin B. Downey, son of Beulah (Sexton) and Willis “Pete” Downey was born January 17, 1925, in Sharpsburg, Iowa. Calvin entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of eighty-one years, one month and sixteen days.
As a young boy, he lived in Missouri, Omaha, and Washington. On September 25, 1949, he married Lucille Richie in Corning, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Calvin Douglas, Cynthia Irene and Curtis Dale.
Calvin served in the United States Navy during World War II for 3 1/2 years. After farming for a number of years, Calvin and Lucille moved to Corning. He was the owner and operator of Downeys DX for 27 years. He worked at Westgate Housing as a maintenance man for 17 years. He was a former member of the Corning American Legion and Creston VFW.
Calvin was preceded in death his parents; sister, Mary Jane Duncan and brother-in-law Orlo Edwin Duncan and son, Curtis Dale Downey.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Downey of Corning; daughter Cynthia (husband Randy) Johnson of Corning; son Calvin Douglas (wife Connie) of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Dory Schaffer (special friend Erik Claussen), Ryan (wife Wendi) Schaffer, Mallory Downey (fiance Mike Auch), Sean Downey (special friend Sally Oliver) and David (wife Dona) Miles; great-grandson Brayton Mobley and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
