Charles graduated from Des Moines Tech High School with the Class of 1955. On June 6, 1959, he married Lynne Grace Miller in Manilla, Iowa. Charles and his family lived in Des Moines, and then moved to West Virginia in 1973. They returned to Iowa and lived in Dow City, Denison, and Defiance, Iowa before moving to Creston. Charles performed maintenance for several different companies, mostly in Des Moines. He worked in the meat packing industry in Denison for several years. Following retirement, Charles moved to Creston in June 2003. He worked part-time for OReilly Auto Parts and delivered parts to customers. Charles enjoyed camping and fishing. He liked tinkering with automobiles and could rebuild the motors and repair the body. Charles moved to Creston because of the ideal fishing and camping areas. Left to cherish Charles memory are his children: Dennis (Christina) Brightwell, Council Bluffs, IA; Doug (Benita) Brightwell, Creston; and Cynthia Brightwell, Council Bluffs, IA; and his six grandchildren: Kristopher, Mickeal, Kaitlin (fiance, Cory Dorsey), and Emma Brightwell; Amanda Palmer and Curtis Vrba. Preceding Charles in death were his parents and his wife, Lynne Grace in November, 2003.
