Charles Junior Richie

Charles Junior Richie, son of Charles and Hazel Irene (Pond) Richie, was born on Sunday, August 13, 1922 in Carbon, Iowa. Charles entered eternal rest on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Corning Nursing Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight years, five months and eighteen days.
Junior attended country school prior to graduating from Corning High School. Junior enlisted in the United States Marines Corp. on December 5, 1942 where he honorably served achieving the rank of Line Corporal as an expert rifleman in the Battle for Iwo Jima and Volcano Islands. After serving in the Pacific areas, Junior was Honorably Discharged on October 31, 1945 at the Marine Barracks Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida.
Junior was united in marriage to Virginia Marlene Hight on September 16, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska and four children were born to bless this union: Charles, Galen, June and Terry. Together the couple raised their children on the farm where they have resided over fifty years.
Junior farmed his entire life. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Corning and Williamson. Junior loved raising livestock and hunting. He was a known craftsman and handyman. One of his favorite interests was watching and following NASCAR.
Left to cherish Junior’s memory is his wife, Virginia Richie; son, Charles Stanley (Mitzi) Richie; son, Galen Richie, all of Corning, Iowa; daughter, June (Frank) Ballantini of Ankeny, Iowa; son, Terry Glenn Richie of Corning, Iowa; grandchildren: Allysa and Michael Ballantini; sisters: Lucille Downey and Kathleen (Richard) Murdock, both of Corning, Iowa.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Richie; brother-in-law, Calvin Downey and granddaughter, Dandee Marie Richie.
