Chuck Payton

November 11, 1937 — July 29, 2010

Chuck Payton, the son of Hilga Courtland and Helen (Wicker) Payton, was born on November 11, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa. Chuck Payton entered eternal rest on July 29, 2010, in rural Creston, Iowa, at the age of seventy-two years, eight months, and seventeen days.
Chuck attended school in Des Moines until he was thirteen years old. He graduated from high school at Buffalo, Missouri. Chuck served in the United States Navy on the John Paul Jones Aircraft Carrier. On April 29, 1997, he married Karen Louise Maeder in Springfield, Missouri.
Chuck lived in Carlisle for many years and Adel, Iowa. He has lived in rural Creston since 1997. Chuck drove a truck for Rock Island Transport and also Yellow Freight. He has been a truck driver for Midwest Drivers for about eighteen years.
Chuck was a member of the Williamson American Legion; a member of the Teamsters Union #147; and a member of the Varmint Hunters Association (he hunted prairie dogs).
Left to cherish Chucks memory are his wife: Karen Payton, Rural Creston; his daughters: Charlene (husband Kevin) Franklin, Dexter, IA; Kimberly (husband Mike) Mangello, Carlisle, IA; and Kristin Ann Payton, Ames, IA; his son: Josh Payton and fiance Rachel Taggart, Corvallis, OR; his step-son: Mike (wife Laurie) Haynes, Creston; ten grandchildren: Steve, Stacy, Brad, Emily and Erin; Kristen, Kelly and Tony; Ashley and Brooke; five great-granddaughters; his sister: Betty (husband Roger) McGinley, Des Moines, IA; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Chuck in death were his parents; and his son, Chuck Dale Payton. He was also preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law: Barbara and Vern Maeder.
