Clark Peterson

January 24, 1923 — May 2, 2011

Clark Merle Peterson, second son of Herman and Velma (Hoops) Peterson was born on the Peterson homestead at Strand, Iowa, on January 24, 1923. Clark entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 2, 2011, at his home in Corning at the age of eighty-eight years, three months and nine days.
Clark attended country school and helped his parents on the farm until entering service to his country on October 19, 1944. Clark served in the 25th Division of the US Army as a combat infantryman in WWII overseas in the Luzan area and Japan. He was Honorably Discharged on November 15, 1946, after receiving the Asistic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
When Clark returned home from the war he entered into the farming business and purchased his own farm in 1948 south of Corning. This same year he started his life-long passion for carpentry and began working with Harold Wiley, as Clark loved to build things. He also erected grain bins for many years.
On February 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Wilma May Hardisty at the Methodist Parsonage at Bedford, Iowa. The couple moved into their farm where they were blessed with three children: Nancy, Doug and Jeanie. Clark and Wilma celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary. They lived on the farm for 58 years. They spent many years wintering in Texas.
Clark’s favorite past time was playing cards with family and friends. He played his last game on Sunday and he won. He enjoyed collecting and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors. He looked forward to the visits with his grand children and great-grand children.
Clark was a member of the Corning American Legion OURCQ Post #117.
