Colleen Brotherton

December 9, 1927 — November 25, 2021

Colleen was born December 9, 1927 to Irene and Dwight Kirkpatrick, the oldest of seven children. Following her graduation from Creston High School, Colleen worked as a young waitress at the Iowana Hotel Dining Room. On June 27, 1948, Colleen was united in marriage to Richard Brotherton. The couple was blessed with 3 children: Kathy, Jeff and Tom.
Colleen enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and visits with family. She and Richard shared a great love of traveling making multiple visits to 49 states, and 9 European countries, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, creating lifetime memories.
Preceding Colleen in death was her husband, Richard in 2003; parents; 2 brothers: Boyd and Jerry Kirkpatrick; sister, Carol Wynn; a special aunt, Maude Homan; and 2 brothers-in-law: Louie Kennedy and Jim Brotherton.
Colleen is survived, and will be dearly missed, by her children: Kathy Rice (husband Doug) of Omaha, NE; Jeff Brotherton (wife Gretchen) of Greer, SC; and Tom Brotherton (wife Candi) of Emmetsburg, IA. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Megan Rice Shoemaker (husband Chad) and children: Ella Hamilton and Brooklyn Shoemaker of Lincoln, NE; Beth Brotherton and sons: Wyatt, Colt and Zane Hampton of Greenville, SC; Mark Rice (wife Bethany) and children: Emily and Elijah Rice of Ramsey, MN; Nathan Brotherton of Omaha, NE. Other survivors include sisters: Lois Jay (husband Bill) and Diana Loomis, both of Creston, IA; brother, Ed Kirkpatrick (wife Barb) of Newport News, VA; sisters-in-law: Kay Kennedy of Dubuque, IA; Michele Brotherton of Grapevine, TX and Nina Kirkpatrick of Creston, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
