Dale Shepherd

Dale was born at Villisca, Iowa, Montgomery County to Fred and Mabel (Johnson) Shepherd on April 29, 1929. He entered into eternal rest at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 85 years six months and twenty days.
Dale grew to manhood on farms in Montgomery and Adams County. He attended rural schools at Longbranch, Rockdale, Jasper #4 and Grant #2 and attended Lenox High School. He was drafted into the Army February 1951 and was in Korea for 3 Christmas’. He served in the 82nd Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Co. He was awarded the U.N. and Korea Service Ribbons with three campaign stars. He farmed all of his life and he remarked that “2014 was the best crop he had ever raised”.
Dale was united in marriage to Janice Ritnour on February 18, 1962 at the Strand Lutheran Church in Adams County. This union was blessed with two sons: Steven of Creston, Iowa and Scott of Corning, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2012.
In 2009 he took all of his family on a Carribean Cruise. He was a great husband, father and loving grandpa. Dale and Janice spent many vacations on motorcycle trips. They had visited all 50 states, the Panama Canal, Cancun and Canada. He took great pride in keeping his vehicles and farm tractors in great shape. The farm was his great love.
Preceding him in death were his parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Floyd and Delilah Ritnour.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice of Lenox; sons: Steven (wife Leona) of Creston and Scott (wife Teresa) of Corning; grandchildren: Tyler and Rachel of Creston and Tabitha and Tiffany of Sioux City, Iowa; a brother Harold (wife Irene)Shepherd of Prescott, Iowa; nieces; Susan(husband Neal) McElwain of Creston, Iowa, their sons Adam and Luke; and Sharlene (husband Larry) Timm of Carroll, Iowa, their children Aaron and Allison. Many other family members and friends.
