Darlene Armstrong

Phyllis “Darlene” Armstrong, daughter of Merle D. and Goldie O. (Oziah) Akers, was born on June 10, 1936 in New Market, Iowa. Darlene entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the age of seventy-six years, six months and twenty-eight days in Villisca, Iowa.
On August 17, 1954, Darlene was united in marriage to Rodney Dale Armstrong in Carbon, Iowa and the couple lived in Carbon all of their married life. In 1990, Darlene moved to Corning, Iowa. When Darlene was first married, her love of flowers took her to work for a few years at Earl May Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa. Darlene then found her life-long passion in the medical field as a surgical assistant, where she sterilized all the surgical instruments before, during and after surgical procedures at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa. Darlene retired from Alegent Health Mercy Hospital after working there thirty-eight years. After Darlenes retirement, her compassion for people continued by caring for the elderly, providing transportation to and from doctor visits and providing respite care.
Dale passed away in 1977, the couple had no children so Darlene adored, cherished and loved her nieces and nephews as her own.
Throughout the years Darlene enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii and Las Vegas. She enjoyed her family trips to Florida, going to yard sales and tending to her flowers regularly. She loved country music and enjoyed listening to Dale play guitar in his band.
Darlene will be missed by all who had come to know her.
Left to cherish Darlenes memory is her brother, Lloyd Akers of Gravity, Iowa; brother, Duane (Deloris) Akers of Stanton, Iowa; sister, Deloris Williams of Villisca, Iowa; brother, Lewis Junior (Edna) Akers of Peru, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Sam Armstrong of Corning, Iowa, Willie Walton of Villisca, Iowa and Duane Burschied of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Phyllis Armstrong of Corning, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Armstrong; sisters-in-law: Charlotte Akers, Donna Armstrong, Darlene Walton and Arlene Burschied; brothers-in-law: Richard Williams and John Armstrong; nephew, Eliot Akers; great-niece, Erin Kuhn; nephew, Willie Walton, Jr.
