Darlene Rae Gilbert

Darlene Rae Gilbert, 80, of Clearfield passed away during the early morning of Friday, July 7, 2017 at Clearview Home, Clearfield, Iowa. Darlene had been a part of the Clearview Home family since March 14, 2007. No local services are planned. Interment will be held at a later date in Mission Hill, South Dakota.
Darlene Rae Gilbert, the second oldest child born to Jesse and Dora Anne (Blue) Fox, was born April 4, 1937. Darlene grew up around the Omaha area and attended Madison School in Omaha and on to South High until the 11th Grade. She married Patrick Denny and they were married for five years and then divorced. She had two children with him, Sheri and William. She married Charles Edward Gilbert in 1958 and had two more children, Charles and Steven. They were married for forty-two and a half years when he died of cancer in the year 2000. Darlene worked as a nurse aide for twenty-five years in nursing homes and hospitals, and five years as a dietician aide in various nursing homes. She retired in 1990, when her health no longer allowed her be employed.
Darlene enjoyed watching television, doing jigsaw puzzles, writing letters, word find puzzles and playing Bingo. Darlene enjoyed so much when family came to visit, especially the great grandchildren. She looked forward to her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Nancy Gilbert, visiting her when they were traveling, as well as making regular telephone calls to her. She loved to shop for Christmas presents for her family during the holiday season, and this year was amazed at how fun it was to online shop.
Darlene is survived by her sons: William Denny, Grain Valley, MO; and Charles (wife Ester Marie) Gilbert, Tingley, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Nancy Gilbert, Englewood, CO.
Sadly, Darlene’s daughter, Sheri and son, Steven preceded her in death; as well as her husband, Charles, and three brothers and one sister.
Darlene will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was sweet and kind, as well as ornery.
