Darlene Whittlesey

Eva Darlene Whittlesey, the daughter of Marion Arthur and Jesse Mabel (Swain) Brown, was born on March 21, 1926, near Lenox, in Taylor County, Iowa. Darlene entered eternal rest on October 4, 2007, at the Creston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one years, six months, and sixteen days.
Darlene graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1943. On November 3, 1946, she married Donald LaVerne Whittlesey at Creston, Iowa, and four children were born to bless this union
Darlene lived in Creston from 1939 until 1958; she lived in Greenfield from 1958 until 1976; and she lived in Waukee from 1976 until August 2004. Darlene returned to Creston in 2004. Darlene worked at the First National Bank in Creston for about three years prior to her marriage. Darlene was the Secretary at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Greenfield for many years and also worked as a typesetter for several newspapers.
Darlene volunteered at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for sixteen years. Darlene was a member of the VFW Post #9662 in Des Moines and was a member of the Waukee United Methodist Church.
Left to mourn Darlenes passing are her children: Bonnie (husband Charlie) Westman, Creston; Charles (wife Kaylene) Whittlesey, Cedar Rapids; Carole (husband Keith) Engelmann, Omaha, NE; Six Grandchildren: Paul Scheel, Greenfield; Kathy (Jason) Kendrick, Creston; Joshua Shearer, Omaha, NE; Lindsey Shearer, Kansas City, MO: Ben Whittlesey, Ames, Iowa, and Andrew Whittlesey, Iowa City, IA; Six Great-Grandchildren; Sisters: Helen Davis, Lamar, MO; and Dorothy Thompson, Mesa, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Darlene in death were her Parents; Grandparents; Husband in 1985; Daughter: Donna in 1953; Five Brothers: Carl; Marion Arthur, Jr; Kenneth; Donald; and Ronald and One Sister, Bessie.
