Darlyne Tussey

August 26, 1917 — October 5, 2017

Darlyne Vivian Tussey, the daughter of Henry Jacob and Martha Jane (Huffman) Balius, was born on August 26, 1917, in Creston, Iowa. Darlyne entered eternal rest on October 5, 2017, at Creston Specialty Care, Creston, Iowa, at the age of one hundred years, one month, and nine days.
Darlyne attended Country School in Union County and attended Creston High School during Eighth to Tenth Grade. The family moved from town to the farm, and Darlyne graduated from Shannon City High School in 1935. On December 22, 1935, Darlyne married Paul W. Tussey in the home of Darlyne’s parents. Darlyne was a homemaker and farm wife most of her adult life. She worked along side her husband, helping with the many farm chores. She also worked as a cook in the Orient-Macksburg Schools a few years. Darlyne worked at Kelly’s Flowers and the Creston Medical Clinic for several years.
Darlyne was a current member of the Creston First United Methodist Church. She belonged to several bridge clubs and she was member of the Women’s Card Club that met weekly at the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton. Darlyne was a long-time former member of the Orient United Methodist Church; U.M.W.; and Farm Bureau. In retirement, Paul and Darlyne spent the winter months in Parker, Arizona.
Left to cherish Darlyne’s memory are her son, Jim (Karen) Tussey, Orient, IA; her daughter, Janet (Lee) Crawford, Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren: Jeff (Peni) Tussey, Orient; Steve (Terri) Tussey, Orient; and Andy (Stacy) Summers, Edmund, OK; three step-grandchildren: Jeff Crawford, West Des Moines, IA; Chris Crawford, Des Moines, IA: and Dale (Vicki) Crawford, Granger, IA; ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; one nephew; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Darlyne in death were her parents; her husband in 2002; three brothers: Roy, Earl and Charles Balius; one sister: Hazel Whittlesey; her son-in-law: Charles Summers; three sisters-in-law: Pauline Balius; Laree Balius; and Lillian Balius; her brother-in-law: Milo Whittlesey; several nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Margaret Elmer Ford.
