Darrel Allison

September 23, 1914 — September 13, 2012

Darrel Ira Allison, son of Fred and Lula Viola (Kingery) Allison, was born on September 23, 1914 on a farm northwest of Mt. Etna in Adams County, Iowa. Darrel passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Corning Nursing Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of ninety-seven years, eleven months and twenty-one days.
Darrel attended rural schools in Adams County and attended Corning High School. Darrel was united in marriage to Pearl Nelson on September 24, 1940. She passed away in 1949. On August 12, 1951, Darrel was united in marriage to Dailey Emogene Johnston and three children were born to bless this union: Delores, Douglas and Deanna. The couple celebrated sixty-one years of marriage.
Darrel and Dailey started their lives together on a farm seven miles north of Corning where they started building their family and where they lived and farmed over forty years. Darrels love for farming was evident in his soil conservation methods and his pioneering efforts in utilizing contour farming. Darrel also took great pride in raising cattle, hogs and chickens. After Doug graduated from high school he worked side by side with his dad in preserving the tradition of farming in their family.
In 1955 Darrel was baptized at the Mt. Etna Church of the Brethren and remained a faithful, devoted member to the church the rest of his life, serving as Deacon and Treasurer for many years. Darrels children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Darrel managed to live in his own home until the last four months of his life.
