David Johns

February 2, 1940 — March 12, 2014

David Max Johns, the son of Sylvia (Moen) and Max Johns, was born on February 2, 1940, in Creston, Iowa. David entered eternal rest on March 12, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa at the age of seventy-four years.
As a young child and man, David loved to use his hands and mind, and was able to build and create from his imagination or any blueprint. On February 8, 1959, David was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Turner of Creston. Three children were born to this marriage: Sterling Michael, Shelly Reane, and Annette Carlita.
David graduated from Chicago Tool and Die in 1959. He worked at Guttenburg, Iowa as a machinist. The couple then moved to Oelwein to further his career as a machinist. The couple later returned to the Creston area, and David worked in Lenox, Iowa as a Tool and Die Maker. He then began a career at Van Mark Industries, where he was the first certified welder and Plant Supervisor in Creston. David retired from Max Smith Construction in 1999.
David was a former member of the Creston Riders Club in the early 1960’s. David was a member of the Creston City Council and served as Councilman for two terms and Councilman-at-large for one term in the 1970’s. David was a member of the Murray Saddle Club. In David’s later years, photography was a great interest to him taking pictures of family gatherings and wild life.
David’s wife, children, and grandchildren were his pride and joy and David lived life to the fullest. Together the couple spent time together watching stock car races, gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and building crafts.
