Doloris E. Hollander

April 5, 1925 — April 2, 2008

Burial at Prairie Rose Cemetery, Rural Adams County immediately after the service.
Doloris Esther Hollander, the daughter of R. Verne Scott and Edna (Bissell) Scott, was born on April 5, 1925 in Mt. Etna, Iowa. Doloris entered eternal rest on April 2, 2008, at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of eighty two years, eleven months, and twenty-six days.
Doloris graduated from Corning High School in 1942. She married Glendall “Sam” Hollander in Omaha, Nebraska on February 19, 1953 and to this blessed union, five sons were born: Richard, Kent, Kirk, Rodney and Randy.
Being the mother of five boys, it was very important to Doloris that her sons be raised with a strong Christian faith, always making sure they attended church on Sundays and Bible school in the summer time. Every Saturday evening, you would find Doloris with five sets of shoes in front of her, polishing them for her sons to wear to church on Sunday morning.
As a young wife, Doloris was a homemaker. Later Doloris worked at the United States Postal Service in Brooks, and worked there until they closed. She taught in rural schools for 12 years, worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 6 years and then went to work for McMahon Drug in Corning, Iowa, where she, enthusiastically worked for over 25 years, until her retirement in 2007.
Doloris never needed a reason to visit family. She was always eager to hear the latest happenings in her community. She loved to make malts and was an avid reader of mystery novels. She also loved tending to her hanging plants every summer. She would often be described as an impatient person, but those who knew her, loved her for being direct and to the point. Her favorite movie was “The Wizard of Oz” and her entire house was decorated with items from the movie.
Doloris was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Corning, Iowa.
Left to cherish Doloriss memory are her sons: Richard (wife Colleen) Hollander, Littleton, Colorado; Kirk (wife Diana) Hollander, Corning, Iowa; Kent Hollander, Corning, Iowa; Rodney (wife Sue) Hollander, Urbandale, Iowa; brothers; Gerald (wife Lois) Scott, Clearfield, Iowa; Marvin “Dee” Scott, Corning, Iowa; Edward (wife Sharon) Scott, Corning, Iowa; sisters: Illah (husband Clifford) Brown; Ruth Swartz, Corning, Iowa; Norma ORiley, Littleton, Colorado, brother-in-law, Cylvan “Bud” Hollander, LaMirda, California, sister-in-law, Eileen Hollander, Omaha, Nebraska, five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
