Donald Dean Brokaw, son of Leland Stanford and Lucille Grace (Kempton) Brokaw, was born on December 3, 1927 in rural Adams County. Donald entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-one years.
Donald attended and graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1946. For seventeen years, Donald was employed by the Department of Transportation/Highway Commission. Donald also worked at the Red Star Mill in Corning.
Donald was a man of faith, reading his Holy Bible daily. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Corning.
On January 29, 1979, Donald was united in marriage to Joanna (Simpson) Brokaw.
Donald loved sports. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Cubs. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Donald also loved NASCAR and was especially fond of Jeff Gordon.
Left to cherish Donalds memory is his wife, Joanna Brokaw of Corning, IA; sons: Greg Brokaw of Prescott, IA, Patrick (wife Sharon) Simpson of Burkitsville, CT; daughters: Christine OClair of Monticello, IA, Angela (husband Ron) White of Creston, IA, Delores (husband Pete) Soda of Omaha, NE, Lynda (husband Billy Gene) Shuler of Corning, IA; grandchildren: Amanda and Christina White, Alex, Jason and Justin Brokaw, Stacey (husband Sam) Chaney, Courtney Simpson, Stephanie (husband Ron) Hiatt, Billy Joe (wife Jill) Shuler, Aimee (husband Klint) Bissell and Jeff Soda (Christy); seven great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Kyle, Braydon, Tucker, Zoe, Jaden and Dylan; sister-in-law, Phyllis Brokaw.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stanley Brokaw; sister, Rowena Hurd
