Donald Dean Miller

Donald Dean Miller, 84, of Lenox died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 30, at the Lenox United Methodist Church. Pastor Shurmaine McAlpine will officiate. Interment will be in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Open visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. Tuesday evening at the Lenox United Methodist Church. There will be Masonic Services by Instruction Lodge #275 of Corning at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday evening at the church. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family in Donald’s name, to be determined later. Donald Dean Miller, the son of Raymond Delbert and Edith Marie (Nixon) Miller, was born on January 24, 1929 on the family farm in rural Kent, Iowa. Donald graduated from Lenox High School with the Class of 1946. On February 24, 1950, he married Jean M. Miller in Afton, Iowa. The family lived in Afton until 1961. The family moved to Lenox and later moved north of Lenox. Don returned to Lenox after Jean’s death in 2000. He also lived in Durant, Iowa, near his son Dan, for six years and has lived at Lenox Care Center since 2011.
Don managed and operated Lyle G. Miller Trucking and hauled grain and livestock until 1967. Don then worked building custom fences and started digging graves in 1969. Don drove a school bus for Lenox for thirty years, did custom hay baling, and owned Belgian Draft Horses with his brother Gail. Don also owned Quarter Horses and was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse Mounted Patrol Drill Team and the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club. He worked for the city of Lenox as Street Commissioner for several years and worked part-time for Pearson Family Funeral Service in Lenox for several years.
Don was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge in Lenox, Iowa for over fifty years. He was also a member of the Salome Chapter #264 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Don’s memory are his children: David Miller, Claremore, OK; Jolene (Randy) Garey, Manson, IA; and Daniel (Sandy) Miller, Walcott, IA; his daughter-in-law, Jackie Miller, Knoxville, IA; Six grandchildren; Thirteen great-grandchildren; his brothers: Allen Miller, Lenox; and Harlan (Joy) Miller, Lenox; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Dailey, Des Moines, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; his wife, Jean; his son, Randy Miller; three brothers: Dick, Gail, and Edwin Miller; his great-grandson, Ryder Garey; and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Miller.
