Donald O. Drennan

June 29, 1923 — February 27, 2009

Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery, rural Adams County.
Memorials may be directed to the Congregate Meal Site and/or Hospital Foundation.
Donald Orlo Drennan was born June 29, 1923, to C. Orlo and Bernice (Arthur) Drennan on a farm in Lincoln Township, Adams County, Iowa, and passed away on February 27, 2009, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Donald spent his entire life in Adams County with a short time out in 1946-1947 to serve in the United States Army on the island of Adak in the Aleutian Island chain off Alaska. After that he came back to Adams County, Donald married Dorothy Gray on October 28, 1950, at the Chapel of Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Farming and raising livestock, cattle especially, was his main desire. His love of the land and farming was an inspiration to many young livestock farmers. He spent many years at the auction barn; buying, selling, and trading for himself and for others.
Donald had a special place in his heart for kids and always had a quarter for them. His other special love was ice cream or any good dessert. He never missed coffee and treasured the conversations and fellowship of main street Iowa. He provided great entertainment to all the grandkids on their trips to visit, from three-wheeler rides to going for a snack every afternoon.
He is survived by a son, Jim and wife, Nancy, of Shelbyville, KY; a daughter, Nancy Iseminger, of West Des Moines, IA; and a son Donald Alan and wife, Arlene, of Atlantic, IA. Also surviving are his brother, Galen and wife, Linda, of Ames, IA, four grandchildren: David McKay and wife, Cindi, of Lexington, KY; Matt McKay and wife, Christy, of Richmond, KY; Jake Drennan and wife, Emily, of Cedar Falls, IA; and Angie Kennedy, and husband, Matt, of Racine, WI. His seven great-grandchildren are Jonathan, Matthew, Charrisa, Joshua, Anna, Jared, and Levi.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and sister, Roberta Paulsen, of Mason City, IA.
