Dora Wilson

Dora Marie (Johns) Wilson, daughter of Arthur Burns and Maude Marie (Arbuckle) Johns, was born on November 18, 1918 in Villisca, Iowa. Dora entered eternal rest on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Creston Nursing Rehab Center in Creston, Iowa at the age of ninety-three years , six months and fourteen days.
The family moved to Creston from Villisca when Dora was young. Dora graduated from Creston High School at age sixteen.
Dora was united in marriage to Harold Theodore “Ted” Wilson on August 15, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri and three children were born to bless this union: Joe, Sandee and Beverly. Together the couple owned and operated several different restaurants around Creston including The Shamrock and Ted Dora’s , both on Highway 34 and also waitressed at the Chicken Inn.
Later, Dora worked at the Creston Medical Clinic as the Receptionist, scheduling appointments for patients. Dora retired after 22 years of service.
Dora enjoyed volunteering and served on the Board for the Congregate Meal Site. She loved to play cards with family and friends and belonged to a couple of card clubs. They would meet at each other’s homes or the meal site. She also looked forward to Bingo nights and garage sales as these were her favorite things to do.
Left to cherish Dora’s memory are her children: Joe (Peggy) Wilson of Corning, IA, Sandee Brownrigg of Creston, IA, Beverly Wilson of Penn Valley, CA; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Wanda Hood of Creston, IA; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted Wilson on September 29, 1998; son-in-law, Gary Brownrigg in 2007; two brothers: Dean Culver ad Max Johns; granddaughter, Tonya Marie Wilson; brother-in-law, Dale Hood and sister-in-law, Sylvia Johns.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Pearson Family Funeral Service of Creston. There will be open visitation from 2-8PM on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6-8PM at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery.
