Doris Brown

September 30, 1913 — April 12, 2010

Doris Leona Brown, the daughter of Ray Cecil and Bessie Blanche (Flaugh) Lake, was born on September 30, 1913, near Zion, in Adair County, Iowa. Doris entered eternal rest on April 12, 2010, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety-six years, six months, and thirteen days.
Doris graduated from Zion High School with the Class of 1932. Following graduation, she married Harold DeForrest Brown on December 25, 1933, and they moved to Union County. Later they moved to Adams County and began farming. Doris and her husband, Harold, owned and operated Rose Hill Nursery in Creston for many years. Doris was also a farm wife and helped Harold farm in Adams County, where the Nursery was started.
Doris was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Creston and was active in the church and Marys Circle. Doris family was very important to her. She loved people and always had a kind word. Doris enjoyed playing Bingo and cards at the Creston Meal Site.
Left to cherish Doris memory are her children: Shirley (husband Jim) Mulford, of Johnston, Iowa; and Raymond (wife Pat) Brown, of Eldridge, Iowa; her eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister: Mary Morris, of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents; her husband, Harold in 1986; her son: Richard Brown in 1996; her brother: Leo Lake; and her two sisters: Isal Sheriff and Lucille Morris.
