Doris Hood

March 5, 1935 — September 7, 2013

Doris Mae Hood, the daughter of Ivan Harry and Claudie Mae (Copeland) Moore, was born on March 5, 1935 in Corning, Iowa. Doris entered eternal rest on September 7, 2013 at her home in rural Creston, Iowa at the age of seventy-eight years.
Doris graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1953 and moved to Creston shortly after. On July 1, 1955 she married Charles “Keith” Hood in Creston. Doris was part-owner and clerk for H W Sales. She worked along-side Darwin and June West, Tom and Leisa Frey and the late Buck Buxton and was associated with Auction Sales for more than fifty years. Doris also worked at the Sale Barn in Creston for Virginia and Howard Meyers.
Doris regularly attended Platte Center Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Alpha Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi soroity. When she was younger, she tended a large garden and loved going to Hawkeye Football games. She enjoyed golfing at Lakeshore Country Club when she was able; and loved going to local sporting events and supporting Creston High School athletics. Doris’ hobbies included playing cards, especially Contract Rummy and Hate Your Neighbor; going to the Civic Center with her friends; travelling locally; and trying new restaurants. She loved watching the Auctioneer Competition at the Iowa State Fair.
Left to cherish Doris’ memory is her son, Gail (Jan) Hood, Winterset; her grandson, Phil (Melinda) Hood, Atlantic; her foster grandson, Ryan Capps, Indianola; her sister-in-law, Wanda Moore, Creston; her brother-in-law, Bill (Diane) Hood, Baird, IA; her sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Fibiker, Callender, IA; Karen (Larry) Gonseth, Osceola, IA; and Sharon (Bill) Sheesley, Murray, IA; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents; her husband, Keith on July 17, 1995; her brother, Bernard Moore; her sister, Lavetta Burkhalter; her brother-in-law, Arnold Burkhalter; her brother-in-law, Donald Fibiker; and her mother and father-in-law: Margradell and Frank Hood.
