Dorothy Baker, 90, of Afton, formerly of Creston, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Afton Care Center, Afton, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 9, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Father Kenneth Halbur, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 8. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friday and Family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Cemetery and/or St. Malachy School. On-line condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
Dorothy Ellen Baker, the daughter of Arthur Monroe and Josephine (Keefer) Crago, was born on January 24, 1923 in Platte Township, Union County, Iowa. Dorothy was a lifetime resident of Platte Township. In 1939, she graduated from Creston High School and then attended Southwestern Community College. On September 12, 1940, Dorothy married Edmund Baker in Creston and was a devoted farm wife.
Dorothy was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women.
Survivors include two daughters: Carolyn (Don) Ketter, Camano Island, WA; and Rita (Gary) Michels, Fort Collins, CO; her son: Jim (Mary Lynn) Baker, Creston; Seven Grandchildren: Julie Ketter; Brenda Hartmeyer; Jean, Kelly, and Robert Michels; Renea Burg; and Jeffrey Baker; Seven Great-Grandchildren: Rachel Hartmeyer; Madison, Nathan, Mallory, Jackson, and Nancy Michels; and Abigail Burg; Two Step-Great Grandchildren: Julie and Issac Michels; her sister: Norma Jean Crago, Creston; her brothers: James (Linda) Crago, Shannon City, Iowa; and Edward Crago, Creston; and her sisters-in-law: Mary Jean Gebhardt, Van Meter, IA; Coletta Bradley, Kent; and Judy Crago, Ellerton, Iowa.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband on May 18, 1996; and her brother, Dean Crago.
