Dorothy E. Stevens

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Union County 4-H Society and/or the Alzheimers Association.
Dorothy Ellen Stevens, the daughter of Carl Roy and Lenora (Borland) Hood, was born on November 25, 1927, at Creston, Iowa. Dorothy entered eternal rest on January 3, 2010, at the Afton Care Center, Afton, Iowa, at the age of eighty-two years, one month and nine days.
Dorothy attended country schools and Creston schools. She left Creston with her parents and moved to Notus, Idaho, in 1946 and graduated from Notus High School in 1946. She moved back to Creston in September of 1948 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Creston Farmers Coop until February 10, 1950. On February 10, 1950, she married Darrel Kenneth Stevens at Creston.
After her marriage, she and Darrel farmed by Kent and Creston for over forty years. They moved to Creston in February, 1955. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses and retired after twenty-five years as a clerk for Creston Livestock Auction. Dorothy was a member of Platte Center Presbyterian Church. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and very involved in 4-H as a leader. She was a member of the WNG Card Club and the Tops Club.
Left to cherish Dorothys memory are her husband, Darrel Stevens, Creston; her children: Sandra (Tom) Schmitt. Winchester, VA; Gary Stevens (friend Mary Craig), Stuart, IA; and Anita (Eldon) Naven, Omaha, NE; her four grandchildren: Brian (Lynn) Schmitt, Winchester, VA; Laura Schmitt, Alexandria, VA; Danielle Naven, London, UK; and Matthew Naven, Omaha, NE; Three Great-Grandchildren: Amanda, Eric and Austin of Winchester, VA; her brother: Merton Hood, Osceola, IA; her sister: Barbara Bryant, Lake Havasu City, AZ; her sister-in-law: Marie Stevens, Loveland, CO; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her Parents; her father-in-law and her mother-in-law; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Hood; her brother-in-law, Jack Stevens, and a nephew, Scott Hood.
