Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Pre-School.
Dorothy Louise Scheel, the only child of George Burgess and Jennie Hazel (Sadler) Hepler, was born on May 31, 1926, near Creston in Union County, Iowa. Dorothy entered eternal rest on May 15, 2007, at the Creston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty years, eleven months, and fifteen days.
Dorothy attended Creston Public Schools and graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1943. On February 28, 1949, she married Lyle Scheel at Waterloo, Iowa. A daughter, Linda, was born to bless this union.
Dorothy lived in the Union County area, near Creston her entire life. Dorothy worked as a Clerk for J.C. Penney for about five years. She then worked as a Court Attendant at the Union County Courthouse for several years. Dorothy spent the majority of her adult life as a farm wife and homemaker.
Dorothy was baptized in the Jerusalem United Methodist Church as a young girl. After her marriage to Lyle in 1949, Dorothy became a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for several years. The Church was an important part of her life. Dorothy was a 4-H leader when Linda was a child.
Left to mourn Dorothys passing are her husband, Lyle Scheel of Creston; and her daughter, Linda (husband Richard “Rick”) Hadley of Topeka, Kansas. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents and grandparents.
