Dorothy Mae Trost, the daughter of the late Theodore and Grace (Brown) Selders, was born on April 26, 1928, in Sharpsburg, Iowa. On October 30, 2007, Dorothy passed away suddenly following surgery at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 79.
Dorothy grew up in Sharpsburg and Gravity, Iowa, from where she graduated high school in 1946. Following high school she lived in Marysville, California, for a period of time. On September 25, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage with Donald Howard Trost of Lenox at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Bedford, Iowa. They had two children, Craig and Kim.
After marriage, Dorothy and Donald resided in Kent, Iowa, for about nine years where she began her career as a homemaker and mother. For the next twenty-three years she resided on the farm east of Lenox. In addition, she spent her days gardening and helping with the farming. Over the years, Dorothy was employed in various clerical and bookkeeping positions in Kent and Lenox. For the past twenty-three years, she has resided with her husband in the same home in Lenox. In retirement, they spent many winters in Florida and Texas. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Kent and the United Methodist Church of Lenox.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Donald of Lenox; her brother Theodore Selders and wife Anne of Westminster, California; her son Donald (Craig) Trost, M.D., Ph.D., and wife Roberta of East Lyme, Connecticut; her daughter Kim Hilgenberg and husband Micheal of Cambridge, Iowa; and four grandchildren: Nicholas Hilgenberg and wife Julee of Cambridge, Tawnia Leslie and husband Michael of Maxwell, Iowa; Jason Trost of London, England; and Brian Trost and wife Lucy of Manchester, Connecticut. In addition, there are four great grandchildren, one niece, and two nephews surviving.
