Dorothy Marie Walter, the daughter of Ralph Edward and Hila Arlene (Lucas) Harvey, was born on September 5, 1930 in Taylor County, Iowa near Iveyville. Dorothy entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Alegent Health Hospice of Southwest Iowa at the age of seventy-nine years, nine months and twenty-four days.
Dorothy graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1948. On September 12, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to James Junior Walter at the Mt. Zion Church southwest of Brooks and three sons were born to bless this union: Doug, David and Randy. The loving couple celebrated sixty-one years of marriage last September.
Dorothy worked at Hy-Vee from 1972 until her retirement in 1998. In 2000, she went to work for the Corning Meat Locker. Jim and Dorothy also owned and operated Jim’s Greenhouse in Corning for fifteen years.
Dorothy belonged to the K.K. Neighborhood Club and was a member of a square dance club in Corning. She loved to go to sale auctions which helped her build her collection of over 2400 salt pepper shaker sets from forty-eight states and seventeen countries. Dorothy enjoyed visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the public and loved people. Her love of sports was evident with her fondness of both college and professional football teams.
