Dorothy attended the Casey Public School, graduating in 1933. She attended Simpson College from 1933-1935 and taught in Redfield, Iowa for three years. Dorothy loved to play piano for her own enjoyment and always had two vegetable gardens; one for her family and one for her husbands family. In 1992, she moved to The Village, a retirement community in Indianola, where she continued her activity in the Indianola United Methodist Church and volunteered at The Village.
