Dustin Lee Blanchard was born on May 12, 1985, in Des Moines, IA to Connie Blanchard (Pennock) and Patrick McPhee. Dustin graduated from Smithfield High School in North Carolina. He attended NASCAR University in Mooresville, NC and DMACC in Ankeny, IA. Dustin voluntarily enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserve on October 5, 2018 and served as a Culinary Specialist with the HHC, 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command and later with the 238th Quartermaster Company in Des Moines, IA.

Some of Dustin’s favorite hobbies were playing his guitar, drawing, fishing, camping and the love of cars. He loved to work with his hands, always tinkering on something. Dustin would do anything for anyone, he had a very kind and loving heart. If only holding a hand out to assist his elders, listening to your day, or needing that extra hand moving or putting something together, Dustin was always there to help.

He would love picking up the guitar just to jam a little with either his dad or grandpa Blanchard whenever the opportunity arose. Dustin’s laughter was contagious, he would laugh over the silliest things with his family or just sharing a joke with his mom.

The real highlight of Dustin’s life was when he became a dad to Connor Blanchard. Connor was the light of his life, they were inseparable. As a single dad raising his son, Dustin did a great job even when things got tough. Connor was Dustin’s co-pilot, Dustin was his super-hero.

Left to cherish Dustin’s memories are his son, Connor Blanchard of Creston, IA: mom, Connie Blanchard (Pennock) (Larry), of Gering, NE: dad, Patrick McPhee (Kelli) of Pleasant Hill, IA; sisters, Kendra Flammger (Justin) of Little Elm, TX; Cassandra Bridges (Jarred) of Selma, NC; Nicole Henning (Justin) of Hickman, NE; 4 nephews; 2 nieces; along with many other relatives and friends.

Dustin was preceded in death by brothers: Mark and Matthew Towne; Great Aunt, Joyce Herr; great-grandparents, William and Opal Herr; grandparents, Walter and Beverly McPhee; Uncle, Keith McPhee.
