Dwayne Cannon

Dwayne Cannon, 83, of Creston, entered eternal rest on Monday, December 14, 2020 at his home. Funeral Services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Creston. Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website, under Dwayne’s obituary tab. Open Viewing will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Dwayne John Cannon was born on April 11, 1937, the son of Harold Arther and Opal Irene (Oliver) Cannon. He attended country school in Weldon and graduated from Durant High School with the class of 1957. He later received a certificate in carpentry from Southwestern Community College. Dwayne served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. On December 25, 1974 he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Anne Bailey in Shannon City, Iowa. After they were married the couple lived in Shannon City for a short time before moving to Afton where they resided for many years. One year ago, Dwayne and Jackie moved to Creston.

Dwayne worked several farm jobs in his younger years and would later work for Wellman Dynamics for 27 years. In his retirement, Dwayne worked for East Union School district as a bus driver for 17 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder with the Afton Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. Dwayne was also a member of the Lions Club.

Dwayne was very family oriented and his love for his family took him many miles to watch his children and grandchildren’s events. He was known for being the loudest person in the stands. Dwayne was also a former tee-ball and little league coach.

Left to cherish Dwayne’s memory is his wife, Jackie of Creston; children: Marlene (Steve) Ploessel of Creston, Anita Cannon Gilmore (Terry Vandersluis) of Prairie City, John Cannon of Lucas, Adam (Karen) Cannon of Urbandale, Duffy Cannon of Murry, Teresa (Tad) Werneburg of Creston, Tami (Vince) Goodliffe of Grandview, Missouri and Christie Cannon (Chumbley) of Creston; grandchildren: Christina, Joseph (Caitlin), Jason, Danee, Amyee (Jessie), Traycee (Tyler), Bonnie, Paityn, Connor, Taylor, Justin, Mike, Alyssa (Tyler), Zach, Vanessa, Harley, Andrea (Sam), Bailey, Kaylyn, Ali, Morgan, Brian Jr., Jared (Gabby) Destiny (Brady) and Cora; great grandchildren: Navada, Fallyn, Barrett, Bennett, Joel, KC, Sammy, Lorelei, Austin, Michael, Fysher,Benson, Alyss, Billie, Trucker, Bobbie, Dylan, Pantera, Wyatt, Gavin, Skyler, Sebastian, Hayden, Harper, Waylon, Braxton and plus one; brother, Melvin (Barb) Cannon of Coralville; sister, Lois (Richard) Gonseth of Camdenton, Missouri; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Dwayne in death were his parents; grandson “Tadder” Werneburg Jr.; granddaughters: Savannah Cannon, Ciara Werneburg and Lexie Quigley; brother, Marion Cannon; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Cannon; nephews: Thomas Sales and Phillip Gonseth.
