Edward Arthur (Ed) Fife was born February 6, 1926 on a farm in Adams County, Iowa to Otis Earl and Bernice Nellie (Odell) Fife and entered into rest on June 14, 2007 at the Alegent Health Hospital at the age of eighty-one years, four months and eight days. Ed attended school at Jasper #5 through 8th grade and then went to Corning High School, class of 1943.
On December 18, 1943, Ed and Rosena Ruth Adamson were united in marriage. Of this union three sons were born: David Edward, Duane Arthur and Dean Allen. Ed was inducted into the service on December 28, 1944. He went to the Pacific Theatre and served with the 147th Artillery Battalion in the Philippines. In October 1945 he went to Japan and served with the Base Finance Office until his release on October 18, 1946. Ed farmed south of Corning, with his father, since 1944. On June 2, 1977, Edward married Dorothy Willett Peterson Strait.
Ed farmed for 63 years. He was presented the honor of Century Farm in 2004 at the Iowa State Fair. 2007 was the first year of retirement for Ed, but he couldnt leave it, he still helped his renter up until his illness. He was a member of the American Legion, Shriners Za Ga Zig, Masons Instruction Lodge # 275, Scottish Rite, Happy Hollow Country Club, VFW, and Corning United Methodist Church.
Ed enjoyed playing pool, working with youth in 4-H and playing golf. He played many golf courses in and out of the State of Iowa. He and Dorothy have enjoyed playing in Husband and Wife Tournaments, winning many championships. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Florida, spending winters with Dick and wife Jo Willett. Ed and Dorothy celebrated their 30th year of marriage this June 2nd.
Survivors include: wife, Dorothy; sons, David and wife, Bobette, Dean and wife, Karen; sister, Joan Green of Quincy, Illinois; step-children: Harvey Peterson and wife, Dixie, Ted Strait, Linda Johnson and daughter-in-law, Angie Strait; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, golf buddies and many friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Bernice Fife, son Duane Fife, grandson, Phillip Fife and step-grandson Bradley Strait, brother-in-law, Richard Green.
