Edith Mcfee

April 29, 1920 — August 30, 2010

Edith Lucile McFee, the daughter of Albert Glenwood Ab and Blanche (Von Stein) McFee, was born on April 29, 1920 on a farm near Shannon City, Iowa. Edith entered eternal rest on August 30, 2010, at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety years, four months, and two days.
The first eight grades of her education were spent in consolidated and rural school. Edith graduated from Afton High School in 1938, and immediately started teaching at a rural school. Twenty-five years later she received her degree, a B.S. in Education from Drake University in 1963. Edith taught school for 46 years; fifteen years in rural school; eight years at Thayer Consolidated; six years at East Union; and seventeen in Creston. All 46 of Ediths teaching years were spent in Union County. Edith moved from a farm near Afton to Creston in November 1967. Edith retired in 1984.
Edith traveled extensively in Iowa during her teaching days. Her Iowa History classes were perfected by the first hand knowledge she gained from her visits to Iowas historical sites. Other trips Edith enjoyed beyond Iowa were to several states, her favorite being Colorado, especially Estes Park. In addition, shes been to Canada twice (her grandparents were from Canada), traveling in the provinces of Manitoba and Quebec.
Edith is a Charter Member of the Union County Historical Society; a member of the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club; a member of the Green Valley Hospice and Greater Community Hospital Auxiliary; a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoys reading, playing cards, bowling, and visiting with her friends and neighbors.
Left to cherish Ediths memory are her two nieces: Kathryn (husband Jack) Adams, and Ellen (husband Lee) Von Stein, all of Creston; her nephew, John McFee, Creston; ten great nieces and nephews; fourteen great great nieces and nephews; one great-great-great niece; and her cousins: Willie (wife Phyllis) McFee, and Donna (husband Ron) Neely and their families.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents; her brothers and their wives: Hugh and Esther McFee, and Bob and Twyla McFee; four nieces, and one nephew.
Memorials may be directed to Union County Historical Society.
