Edward E. Jungst

Edward E. Jungst was born February 1, 1917 to Letha Hazel (Gunn) and Arthur Ralph Jungst on a farm south of Afton, in Union County, Iowa. Ed entered eternal rest on April 3, 2009 at Rolling Green Village, Nevada, Iowa at the age of 92.
When he was a year old, his family moved to a farm near Kent, Iowa. A year later, they moved to the family farm southeast of Afton, Iowa where he lived until he graduated from high school in 1936. In the fall of 1936, he moved to Zearing, Iowa where he worked on construction jobs until 1941. During World War II, he worked on defense projects, mostly in the shipyards in Portland, Oregon.
Ed had begun dating Frances Peterson during their high school years, and they were married on December 1, 1940. After the war, they returned to Zearing where Ed worked in construction until 1949. They then moved to Manson, Iowa where he worked in a lumber yard until they moved to Creston in 1952.
Ed served as manager of the Farmers Co-op Lumber Yard from 1952 to 1964 and as General Manager of the Co-op through 1968. In December, 1968, he became Manager of First Federal Savings and Loan. He continued in that position until his retirement. Ed was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Kiwanis Club in Creston.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Letha and Arthur; his wife, Frances; his sisters, Ellen Kendoll and Grace Bills; and his Brothers-in-Law: Henry Vogel, Earl Bills and Lloyd Kendoll.
Ed is survived by his sons: Steven (wife Nancy) Jungst of Nevada, Iowa, Donald (wife Mary Anne) Jungst of Indianapolis, Indiana; two granddaughters: Christa (husband Adam) Nelson of Oswego, Illinois, and Rebecca (husband Philip) Hoff of Indianapolis; and three great grandchildren: Emma and Shane Nelson, and Ian Hoff. Also surviving are his sister, Lucille Vogel of Auburn, Nebraska, and his brothers Robert (wife Betty) Jungst of Creston, and Richard (wife Betty) Jungst of Denver, Colorado.
