Edward Lee Schafer

Internment will be a the Reno Catholic Cemetery in Cass County.
Edward Lee Schafer, son of Seymore John and Helena Agnes (Waters) Schafer, was born at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa on April 3, 1948. Ed entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his home in Corning, Iowa at the age of sixty-one years.
Ed lived his entire life in Corning graduating from Corning High School with the Class of 1966. He then attended one year of trade school at Southwestern Iowa Community College.
In 1969, Ed and his father built his first shop on the family farm north of Corning. On February 27, 1971, Ed was united in marriage to Karla Sue Russell in Red Oak, Iowa and six children were born to bless this union. Ed and Karla built their new business in 1982, north of Corning. Ed spent 42 years of building strong friendships while working on farm equipment repair. Eds sons, Justin and Tom joined the family business 25 years ago. Son, Tyler joined 5 years ago.
Ed was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Happy Hollow Country Club, Cattlemans Association and the Corning Booster Club.
Ed cherished and loved his family, loved family gatherings for holidays, fishing, golfing, going to the races to support Justin and Toms racing habits, loved playing cards and driving around the countryside. He also enjoyed creating new inventions. His shop was his life and he was very proud of his accomplishments.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Karla (Russell) Schafer of Corning; son, Justin (Shyla) Schafer of Corning; son, Tom Schafer of Corning; daughter, Jill (Keith) Currin of Villisca; daughter, Renee (Scott) Owens of Corning; son, Tyler Schafer of Corning; daughter, Brittany Schafer of Corning; seven grandchildren: Jacey, Jentry and Jordyn Schafer, all of Corning, Ryan and Hayley Currin of Villisca and Nikki and Megan Owens of Maryville, Missouri; sister, Roberta (Bob) Brown of Polk City, Iowa; brothers: John (Marilyn) Schafer of Mt. Ayr, Iowa and Ron (Patti) Schafer of Massena, Iowa; mother-in-law, Karean Russell of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Kris (Mark) Stewart, Iowa and Keri (Mark) Kittrell, both of Cedar Falls; brothers-in-law: Kiley (Summer) Russell, James Russell, both of Des Moines, Iowa and Steve Russell of California and other relatives.
Ed was proceded in death by his parents; grandparents: George and Nellie Schafer and Leo and Ellen Waters; father-in-law: James Russell and three infant brothers: Bernard, Joseph and Ralph Schafer.
