Eldon Harden

September 18, 1939 — November 11, 2015

Eldon Eugene Harden, the son of Arthur Sidney and Anne Elizabeth (Cramer) Harden, was born on September 18, 1939, near Kent, Iowa. Eldon entered eternal rest on November 11, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa at the age of seventy-six years, one month and twenty-four days.
Eldon graduated in 1958 with the last class from Shannon City High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1960-1964. Following his discharge from the Navy, Eldon worked as a Plumber in Creston, Corning and surrounding areas until 1976. On January 2, 1985, he married Connie Kay Schwab in Payson, Arizona, at the home of Eldon’s brother.
Eldon began counseling individuals for alcohol and drug abuse through the State of Iowa. Eldon was instrumental in opening Treatment Centers in the area. He continued working for the State of Iowa until funding was eliminated, and then Eldon and Connie opened, owned and operated flower shops in Glenwood and Plattsmouth, Nebraska for many years. Eldon and Connie returned to Creston in 2004 where he began working for S.I.R.F. managing the Holiday Motel. Eldon retired in 2008 and volunteered his time counseling. In retirement, Eldon had several hobbies including fishing, hunting and woodworking. He loved to play cards with his family and friends.
Eldon was a member of the American Legion, attended Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated forty years of sobriety.
Left to cherish Eldon’s memory is his wife, Connie Harden, Creston; his sons: Dan (Amanda) Harden, Creston, Ed (Zida) Harden, Jasper, TX; Brett Foster and partner, Eric Lotzer, Omaha, NE; Bart (Janette) Foster, Olathe, KS; Corey DeBord, Des Moines, Iowa; and Corby Debord, Des Moines; Twenty grandchildren; Four Great-Grandchildren; his sister, Gwen Wambold, Winterset; his sister-in-law, Mary Harden, Cedar Edge, CO; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Eldon in death was one grandchild, Jennifer Harden; two children: Christine Staggs and Tony Moore; his son-in-law, John Staggs; his parents and in-laws; his brother, Vernon Harden; and his brother-in-law, Keith Wambold.
