Evelyn L. Allen

Evelyn L. Allen was born on September 21, 1920, in Creston, Iowa. She was the first daughter of eleven children born to Arthur and Enid (Detty) Oswald. Evelyn entered eternal rest on April 9, 2006, at Crest Haven Care Centre at the age of eighty-five.
Evelyn lived most of her life in the Creston area. Evelyn was united in marriage to Floyd “Johnny” Allen on August 5, 1938. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1976. To this union were born three children, Tom, Jim, and daughter Carol “Susie”. In later years, she raised her granddaughter, Angela, whom she adopted. She also raised her grandson Robert “Robbie”.
She worked as a cashier at Easters Grocery for ten years. She also worked for Dollar General as a cashier for two years, sometimes working both jobs together. Evelyn was a foster parent for eight different children. She received recognition for being Foster Parent Of The Year in the mid-1990s. Evelyn was a member of the Cromwell Congregational Church where she was also baptized.
Evelyn is survived by her sons: Tom (Marilyn) Allen, Placerville, CA; Jim (Pat) Allen, Fullerton, CA; Robert “Robbie” (Leah) Allen, Creston; Daughter: Angela Moffitt (Fiance Brian Monday), Indianola; four brothers: George Bud Oswald, Twin Falls, ID; Richard Oswald, Creston; Larry Oswald, Afton; Danny (Mary) Oswald, Des Moines, IA; two sisters: Catherine Fluckey, Creston; Peggy (Dale) Sherer, Tempe, AZ; and Sisters-in-law: Maxine Oswald, Polo, MO; Winnie Oswald, Billings, MT; and Sandy Oswald, Creston. She had fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Husband; Daughter: Carol Kutek; Grandson: John Iiams; Granddaughter: Maria Quintero; Four Brothers: Robert, Kenneth, Ronald and Gary Oswald; and two sisters-in-law: Elaine Oswald and Peggy Oswald
